This blog documents and presents Architectural Design Research carried at the Design Studio Course and other overlapping courses leading toward Master of Architecture Diploma at University of Belgrade; directed by Assistant Professor Djordje Stojanovic and Teaching Assistant Milutin Cerovic. As an online archive of the past work, the site provides information to students enlisting any of the stated courses. At the same time, the blog is seen as an organisational device helping us to sort things out and make plans for what may comes next. It is also meant to help communication between the growing numbers of students and provide practical information specifically related to ongoing courses. Some of the posts point toward related design research work carried by other people and many interesting projects, talks, essays, books and other stuff related to our research. The blog is bilingual in Serbian and English language for its inspiration to remain part of the international design research community. As of recently, the blog features work produced within the Architectural Association Visiting School in Tehran and Paris; and provides record of our peer reviewed papers and work presented at conferences in Europe and Asia.

Since the year 2007 when the first course began, we are focused on investigating novel and versatile spatial organizations arising from the incredible muddle of the emerging social, cultural, economic and environmental conditions in which we all live in. Accordingly, we are committed to the development of design strategies and tools needed for any such endeavor. Just like everyone else we have acquired a keen interest for the technology and have started to observe the relationship between the digital and physical worlds. Working at the University, which has never had a digital fabrication lab, we are continuing to probe into this relation and have curiously found ourselves right in the middle of the heated debate on the post-digital state of affairs in architecture. We are interested in how to design, construct and use buildings in the changing circumstances of the present day context. One of the reoccurring topics in our work is the problem of adaptability which provides for multiple conceptual frameworks in our research. Ultimately, the goal of any such design research within the educational setting is to help prepare future architects for changes our profession is currently going through, and we have done this with an arguable degree of success having past graduates finding work in the offices such as UNStudio, BIG, OMA and Thomas Heatherwick Studio to name the few.

Djordje Stojanovic is an Assistant Professor at Faculty of Architecture University of Belgrade since 2007. In the same year he formed 4of7 Architecture, practice best known for its completed project for the change of use of the existing landmark building at Belgrade riverfront. Previously, from 2005 to 2007, he was a Design Director at AKT Structural Engineering Consultancy in London where he managed the team of architects and programmers working in collaboration with: Thomas Heatherwick Studio, Atelier Nouvel Foster and Foreign Office Architects. From 2003 to 2005 he was employed as a senior architect at ARUP within Advanced Geometry Unit led by Cecil Balmond to work on the Battersea Masterplan. In 2002 he became ARB RIBA III certified architect and worked with Ron Arad Associates on the interior for Hotel Puerto America in Madrid and modular store for Thierry Mugler in Paris. His professional experience started at Zaha Hadid Architects in the year 2000 where he worked until 2002 on the initial stages of the BMW Central Building in Leipzig amongst several other projects. Djordje Stojanovic holds Master Degrees from Architectural Association DRL and London School of Economics.  He graduated from University of Belgrade in 1998.

Milutin Cerovic holds a Master Degree in Architecture from University of Belgrade. In 2008, he joined 4of7 Architecture and quickly become a partner at the company. Hi worked on the project for the mountain house at Kopaonik, built in 2012 and has lead several awarded competition entries including the project for Slavija Square in Belgrade. He has developed parametric design interface for the project in Pediatric Clinic in East Africa, a design tool which translates the proposed floor plan into the adaptable system of discrete interlinked variables and helps in finding solutions to varied building configurations in accordance to different surroundings and changing demands of its users. Since 2011 he works as Teaching Assistant and studies toward his PhD diploma at Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade. His research explores systemic approach to architecture which can be contrasted to object based conception of the built environment.
