The school facility on Karaburma combines theoretical and practical knowledge – theoretical classes meet and correspond with practical, such as workshops and exhibitions.

The basic idea behind the concept was synchronization of architecture and the landscape and integration into the terrain. The building is mostly buried in the ground and only the façade is open to the landscape. Openings are orientated towards the Danube river and provide natural north lighting and ventilation to the whole facility, therefore giving them a higher quality. The building is a path which follows the terrain and overcomes the elevation difference of some twenty meters. Thus, the line of movement is similar to serpentine or meander. Classrooms are actually a series of terraces that climb slowly /or descend/ adapting to the topography.

Ovaj uspostavljeni ritam periodič nog ponavljanja osnovnih gradivnih elemenata prostora razbija prisustvo pristupnog hola, kafea, višenamenske sale, administrativnih prostorija i izložbenih
galerija po obodnim delovima objekta.

The division of space on a large number of studios and workshops is realized through a number of massive walls which also constitute the structural system of the building. This established rhythm of periodic repetitions of basic elements breaks the presence of the access hall, cafe, multipurpose hall, administrative rooms and exhibition galleries at the peripheral parts of the building.

Iako je prostor naizgled fragmentisan, uspostavljena je kontinualna veza svih segmenata putem sistema rampi i stepeništa čime je omogućeno povezivanje i zajedničko funkcionisanje segmenata, kao i njihovo proširenje van granica samog objekta.

Although space is seemingly fragmented, a continuous connection of all segments is established through a system of ramps and staircases enabling connectivity and interoperability of all segments, and their extension beyond the borders of the object itself.

Model

Also, it is possible to use dual-layer space with different levels of privacy – the roof as a fully public space, while semi-public and private spaces such as studios and workshops are within the building.
